EUCAST & Piperacillin-Tazobactam M.I.C.

EUCAST have issued warnings about unreliable results with two brands of gradient tests.  Reports of problems were followed up at the EUCAST development Laboratory in Sweden using both type stains and and strains with resistance mechanisms.
Compared to results from broth microdilution some values were two dilutions too high and others were too low.  There was also considerable variation between batches from the same manufacturer.  The warning about piperacillin-tazobactam gradient tests was first issued in January 2016 and repeated in July 2018.

EUCAST state they have no reason not to trust the disk diffusion (30+6 µg disk) results but currently state thatt disk diffusion results cannot be confirmed with a gradient test.
